“HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH?” CONSISTS OF A GOOD HUNDRED PENCIL DRAWINGS HANGING IN TWELBE COLUMNS IN FRONT OF TH WALL. BUILDINGS ARE BEING DEMOLISHED, EXCAVATORS ARE DRIVINP UP, NEW SKY SCRAPERS ARE BEING MARKED OUT. BETWEEN THEM HANG SKECHTES BASED ON HISTORICAL VIEWS OF THE CITY, TRACED EXERPTS FROM EMAILS OR PORTRAIS OF THE ARTIST ON HIS WAYS THROUGH THE CONSTRUCTIONS SITES. FOR THE WORK SHOWN HERE, GAËL SAPIN DEALT WITH THE DEMOTIONS IN THE CITY OF ZÜRICH, INCLUDING A PROJECT ON UTOPLATZ, WHERE FOUR OLD HOUSES FROM THE TURN OF THE CENTURY ARE TO MAKE WAY FOR A NEW REPLACEMENT BUILDING. THE CRITICISM LEVELED AT THE OLD BUILDINGS IN THE UTOPLATZ PROJECT IS THAT THEY ARE “FACELESS” AND “WITHOUT A CLEAR IDENTITY”. AS PART OF AN EXTENSIVE ARTISTIC RESEARCH, SAPIN EXPLORED THE QUESTION OF WHAT COULD BE MEANT BY THESE TWO TERMS. IN THE COURSE OF THIS PROCESS, HE HAS CREATED A GROUD OF DRAWINGS THAT NOT ONLY DOCUMENT HIS VARIOUS INVERSTIGATIONS AND INITIATIVES, BUT ALSO PUT UP FOR DISCUSSION WAHT “FACE” AND “INDENTITY” CAN MEAN AND HOW CONCEPTS SUCH AS “HERITAGE”, “HOME”, AND “BEAUTY RELATE TO EACH OTHER.
